Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers play a critical role at Dorcas Place providing the individual attention our students require to succeed. We always need new volunteers to work as one-on-one tutors, class room aides or after school program assistants.

Our volunteer positions include:

Tutor
  • Tutor small groups or individual students in math, reading, writing, and learning English.
  • Help needed during the day and the evening for at least two hours a week.
Clothing Collaborative
  • Help answer the telephone, schedule appointments, process clothing donations and assist clients in selection of work outfits.
  • Help needed during the day.
After School
  • Assist in the Child Opportunity Zone (COZ) afterschool program at the Alfred Lima Elementary School in Providence. Second, third and fourth graders work on homework and play games
  • Help needed Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

All Dorcas Place volunteers must submit a clean BCI before they are accepted. A copy of your BCI can be obtained from the Attorney General’s Office on 150 South Main Street in Providence.
