In October 2007 the Case Managers recommended that the agency acknowledge students that despise many barriers, were able to maintain perfect attendance in the month. Their thinking was twofold: one, to provide a monthly reward to each student who did not miss a single class in a given month; and two, to publicly honor perfect attendance students through the display of their pictures with their teachers hoping to motivate their peers to achieve the same goal.
At the beginning of each month, Case Managers and staff, including the President when she is available, visit each class with balloons and gift certificates to recognize everyone who attended every class the previous month. Each student is presented with $10 gift certificate and pictures are taken of the students with their teachers to be displayed for that month.
As a result of this reward system, several students have maintained perfect attendance for two to three months in a row.
Below are photos with smiling faces of some of the students who have been honored for their perfect attendance last month. The Case Management team’s goal is to have 100 students with perfect attendance by the end of next school year. Given the current momentum, that goal is certainly within reach.
