Department of Human Services' Family Independence
Program
The FIP program continues to refer many adults to
Dorcas Place for literacy, career, and support services.
They provide assistance in funding for childcare
and transportation and other benefits. Dorcas Place
work closely with FIP to coordinate service planning
for adults who are transitioning into post-secondary
education and work.
Office
of Rehabilitation Services
ORS is a primary source of coordination of additional
funding and assistance in accommodations for adults
who have learning disabilities. Dorcas Place students
are referred for psychological and vocational evaluations
to assist them to develop quality plans for education
and career goals.
Providence
School Department
Dorcas Place has entered into a new partnership
with the Providence School Department in the design
and implementation of a new Providence Even Start
Family Literacy Program.
The
Providence Plan
Through funding administered by The Providence Plan,
the West End / Elmwood COZ participates in the COZ
Information Network Project (COZIN). Through HUD
funding administered by The Providence Plan, Dorcas
Place delivers education classes for young adults
participating in the Youth Build-Rhode Island Program.
Urban
League of RI's Adolescent Parenting Program
Dorcas Place provides classes at the Beginning Literacy,
Basic Adult Education, and Intermediate levels for
teen mothers. The DHS funded program, ProvPASS,
is collaboration between Urban League, Women and
Infants' Hospital, Providence Ambulatory, and West
End Community Center. In addition, this past year,
Dorcas Place was part of a collaborative project
with the Urban League and Genesis Center, Re-Connect.
This project, funded by a School-to-Work initiative,
assists out of school youth to develop leadership
skills and a network of peer support and information.
The
Volunteer Center of Rhode Island
VCRI provides technical assistance to the Dorcas
Place Volunteer Coordinator in the administration
of the volunteer tutor and mentoring programs. Our
Career Services programs work with this organization
to coordinate volunteer and community service positions
for students.
Community
College of Rhode Island
As a result of a new partnership agreement between
Dorcas Place and CCRI, our students who transition
into higher education at CCRI will be enrolled to
receive student support services there. The college
admissions and financial aid offices work closely
with Dorcas Place staff to ensure successful transition
