Publications for adult learners
Dorcas Place has produced and
distributed several learner-centered publications
over the past ten years. Our publications have been
developed for adults reading at the 5-6th grade
levels, and designed to encourage self-advocacy
in addressing one's daily needs. They are:
Landlord/Tenant
Handbook — This booklet is based
upon RI law and is regularly used by the Providence
Human Relations Commission and other agencies
The
Dorcas Place Cookbook — This book
has been used by many agencies including the RI
Community Food Bank and the Share our Strength
(SOS, Inc.) food and nutrition education program.
First
Aid in the Home — In collaboration
with Rite Care and four participating HMOs this
booklet was produced in both English and Spanish
and distributed to the state's Rite Care participants.
Your
Child's Education — This booklet
was developed to help support parents in accessing
services and advocating for their children in
the public school system.
A Road
Guide to Understanding Learning Disabilities
— This publication was produced in 1999
and developed to help parents understand their
children's learning disabilities and find helpful
resources.
