All students of Dorcas Place are assigned a case manager when they enter their identified program of choice. The case manager's role is to assist students with educational or career planning and also assist with barrier resolution. When students complete orientation they develop an individual Education and Career Plan through the Equipped For the Future (EFF) curriculum frame work and the National Reporting System (NRS) standards that include short and long-term goals. These plans are reviewed with staff and students three times a year to assess progress and identify needed supports. Comprehensive on-site supports provide critical resources ensuring students are able to achieve their individual education and career goals.
Case managers continuously assess student needs and provide students with the supports they need through individual counseling, group workshops and community referrals. Referrals can be related to a variety of issues such as mental and physical health needs, substance abuse, housing, food, childcare, transportation, finances, domestic violence, and legal issues. Staff also assist students with enrollment and other issues related to the Rhode Island Family Independence Program.
911 Emergency Food Pantry is a Dorcas Place run pantry, exclusively meant to assist our students and their families that are finically struggling or unable to make ends meet, but do not qualify for benefits (etc. unemployment, cash assistance, or food stamps). This assistance will be provided to maintain a family's short-term food needs until case managers can make referrals to outside resources, such as larger food pantries that can match the additional needs of the family.
The 911 Emergency Food Pantry is kept stocked by community and staff donations in addition to funds provided by Dorcas Place.
