Our College and Careers Transition Initiative is called the College Readiness Institute. It will prepare students to succeed in college-level work and persist in their postsecondary education goals. Students will receive ASE/College preparatory instruction in reading, writing, math, science and social studies to prepare to earn a GED and to transition to college, or to become college ready. The program will also provide transitions to college workshops that cover study skills, orientation/exposure to campus; application and financial aid assistance; career planning and its relation to programs of study; assessment strategies and preparation for GED and Accuplacer; attending a lecture accompanied by preparation and debriefing. The design includes extensive academic and support services for students who typically have some of the greatest barriers to reaching their educational goals. In addition
to classroom learning, the Institute will provide 10 hours of technology assisted learning that includes multiple forms of learning assistance. This will be implemented using math and reading software in a staff-assisted laboratory setting. The lab includes 14 computers, access to 30 laptops, and small group tutoring sessions. All components will be tracked and monitored by the ASE program team which is composed of our instructor, case manager, distance educator, and program coordinator.
