
The National Institute for Literacy (NIFL) is an independent federal organization whose mission is to lead the national effort toward a fully literate nation in the 21st century. NIFL is one of the sponsors of National Literacy Summit Initiative, a nationwide process to develop a consensus goal and plan for the future of adult literacy in the U.S. A variety of literacy-related topics and reports can be downloaded from the NIFL web site.

National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy (NCSALL) is the national research center for adult literacy. In addition to information on their current research projects, this site provides a full-text version of a highly recommended quarterly journal, Focus on Basics.

This site is jointly sponsored by the International Institute for Literacy (ILI) and the National Center on Adult Literacy (NCAL) at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. NCAL provides national leadership in research and development in the field of adult literacy and seeks to improve the quality of adult literacy programs and services on a nationwide basis.
The National Coalition for Literacy serves as the umbrella organization for the advancement of literacy in the United States.

The National Center for Family Literacy is a nonprofit educational organization whose mission is the advancement and support of family literacy services for millions of families across the United States through programming, training, research, advocacy, and dissemination of information about family literacy.
System For Adult Basic Education Support (SABES). The goal of this site is to "provide adult literacy practitioners with genuinely useful information". Established in 1990 by the Massachusetts Department of Education, SABES, the System for Adult Basic Education Support, is a comprehensive training and technical assistance initiative for educators and programs.
Adult Literacy Resource Institute (ALRI) is a program and staff development center for adult literacy/basic education/ESOL programs in the Greater Boston area. It is one of five regional support centers of the Massachusetts System for Adult Basic Education Support (SABES). This site includes a number of useful online resources, including: excerpts from their bimonthly newsletter, All Write News, software evaluations by adult literacy practitioners, and the nation's first statewide technology plan for ABE.
The New England Literacy Resource Center (NELRC) seeks to "strengthen adult literacy services in New England through sharing and collaborative special projects among State Literacy Resource Centers (SLRC) or their equivalents, adult literacy practitioners and policy-makers in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont."
NELRC is part of World Education, Inc. a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving lives through educational, economic and social development programs. World Education has collaborated with the National Institute for Literacy to produce The Health and Literacy Compendium. World Education also hosts the Massachusetts State Literacy Resource Center, SABES.

Human Resource Investment Council (HRIC) was established by state law in 1992 to coordinate Rhode Island's work force development system. HRIC's primary role is "to act as a catalyst, initiating inventive programs, funding innovative solutions and building dynamic networks". HRIC has been a significant source of funding for workplace and other adult literacy training and literacy and technology projects.
Rhode Island Workforce Literacy Collaborative includes resource information about the 15 collaborative partners and a link to a RI Directory of Adult Education Programs.
The Office of Rehabilitation Services seeks to "empower individuals with disabilities to choose, prepare for, obtain and maintain employment, economic self-sufficiency, independence, and integration into society".
