When Dawn Sullivan, past Director of the RI Department of Human Services and beloved member of our community passed away, a special fund at Dorcas was named in her honor, The Dawn Sullivan Memorial Fund. This has been a restricted fund at Dorcas Place to aid our clients in need of emergency support services when other services are not available.
Over the years it has helped our adult learners face urgent circumstances that may require financial assistance. It was provided support for gas payments, rental fees, food purchases and addressed unexpected emergencies.
When your case managers access this Fund to help an adult learner through a short-term crisis, they are also helping this student stay in school and persist towards longer-term goals.
The economy has taken a toll on everyone, and has impacted our low-income students in dramatic ways. Thus the Fund in Dawn’s honor has seen a lot of use over the past year; we need to raise some funds to start replenishing it this year. Can you help us?
If you are able to consider a gift restricted for the Fund, it would go a long way towards meeting the emergency needs of adult learners here who may require emergency assistance.
